BUDDHISM
In the Simpsons episode “she of little faith” Lisa is dissatisfied with Christianity ways and even expresses her outrage when the church starts selling material items for their own personal gain. Even before finding her new faith, Lisa already exhibits Buddhists traits. While in search of a new religion, she discovers Buddhism when she finds a Buddhist temple in her town and sees Buddha statue inside and people deep in meditation. Richard Gere a famous actor is among those in meditation and even goes ahead to speak to Lisa about Buddhism.

Lisa further expresses her quest for a new faith that isn’t materialistic and Richard confirms that she is indeed in the right place. Gere further states the Buddhist philosophy which is that “all things are transient and empty of inherent existence”.
Through the interaction between Lisa and Richard Gere, it’s clear that the writers are trying to make a conscious effort to portray buddies in an accurate light. Lisa then goes ahead to practice Buddhism at home by planting her own “Bodhi tree” so that she can meditate under it and find inner peace.
